To officially start your spring, come to the Spring Concert, presented by the Hartford City Band. The band will perform a wide variety of selections to please all music tastes. Under the direction of Bill Berlyn, the band will perform “Pride of the Fleet”, “Unknown Soldier” and “They’re Off”, just to name a few. Under the direction of David Vandermeuse, the band will perform “Southwest Summer”, “Northwoods: Of Might and Mettle” and “Italian Holiday”, just to name a few.
As tradition is an integral part of this band since its beginning back in 1880, the Hartford City Band along with the family of Fred Aliota will present the Fred Aliota Memorial Scholarship to a student who is pursuing a career in music. This scholarship was started in memory of its longtime director, Fred Aliota in 1981. The scholarship recipient will receive a one-year scholarship in the amount of $1,500, which will be presented by Joyce “Aliota” Kautz, who is still performing with the band.
The band is always looking for musicians to join. If you played an instrument, even if it has been a while, consider coming to a rehearsal. If you don’t have your instrument, the band can provide you with one. The band rehearses every Monday night at 8:00 pm in the rehearsal hall at the Schauer Center. There are no dues or tryouts. You can learn more about the band by visiting HartfordCityBand.org. The Hartford City Band is a resident tenant of the Schauer Center.
