Conceived in 2003, De La Buena was formed and nurtured by percussionist/vocalist Cecilio Negron & pianist/arranger/band leader David Wake. Ever shifting from its trio beginnings to a 10-piece plus ensemble, De La Buena electrifies audiences with their unique take on psychedelically infused Afro-Cuban and Latin Jazz; featuring some of the region’s finest musicians.
Driven by David’s expansive arrangements, Cecilio’s explosive percussive prowess and the charisma of percussionist/singer Julio Pabon, De La Buena has rightfully become a Milwaukee institution & one of the city’s most sought after acts. A deep-seated love of the delicate harmonic nuance of American Jazz music, and the exploration of our planet’s vast, varied & myriad rhythmicultural landscapes drive De La Buena to push the limits of the musical textures and rhythms of the Americas while paying homage to the traditions of the Caribbean and Africa.
